Notre Dame Lands Another Five-Star

IrishEyes broke the news Sunday that Notre Dame followed up the commitment of offensive guard Alex Bullard (who chose the Irish over Alabama, Florida, Michigan and Tennessee among others,) with a commitment from Five-Star offensive guard, Chris Watt. Watt, the #2 ranked guard by both Scout and Rivals, gives the Irish a formidable twosome at the point of attack. Watt is very mobile and a tenacious blocker.

Here’s what ESPN had to say about him:

“Usually comes off the ball low and hard, with a flat back. Rarely gets too high. Packs a lot of punch and is a great finisher. Keeps his legs driving like pistons. Shows excellent footwork. Gets into his block without losing leverage, and doesn’t try to turn his man until he’s knocked off the line of scrimmage. Has the athleticism to reach the second level with good body control. Can even get to the third level and find a safety to block. Pulls and turns upfield with no loss of motion or balance. Puts his hat on a defender and locks on like a pit bull.”

It also puts the Irish in the running for its best recruiting class along the offensive line in years if Notre Dame can persuade Xavier Nixon, another Five-Star recruit, to join the Irish. If Notre Dame can somehow get Nixon, it would set the stage for the dynamic offensive line, one that Notre Dame desperately needs to compete at the top level.

Along with Cierre Wood, Watt is the second five-star to commit to Notre Dame, which is already more five star prospects than were signed in the 3 of the 5 previous seasons.

There’s going to be ten, count ’em 10, five stars on the ’09 roster (according to Scout.com). Yeah BOOOYYYEEEE!

Welcome Alex Bullard, You won’t regret becoming a great Fighting Irishman. Hats off to Coach Weis and his Coaching Staff. Another 5-Star Player who can come in and play and help win Notre Dame’s next National Championship. Talk about a big time player and helping to buld a rock solid foundation!

    GOOOOO IRISH

Wow, this class is looking nice. I am amazed at Weis’ recruiting ability. I know it is Notre Dame, but that hasn’t helped in the recent past. Weis is really doing something great. I can’t wait until he has all his pieces in place. We will definately have a championship soon.

HAHAHA “I can’t wait until he has all his pieces in place. We will definately have a championship soon.” Let’s see what your saying about waiting if they have another losing season… (Or keep weakening your schedule and scheduling home games!)

Hey Anon at 10:52 AM, you need to get your facts right.

First, ND hasn’t weakened their schedule. Keep in mind that a number of the teams on the schedule in ’07 had players who had used their playing time or who had graduated. Therefore, those teams who are on the ND schedule in ’08 are not going to be as dominant. Second, several of the teams have undergone significant coaching changes, Michigan and Navy to name two. Third, San Diego State was added to the schedule years ago to accommodate a schedule change involving BYU. SDSU is no weaker than a number of the programs played by perennial BCS schools every year. Look at tOSU schedule in ’07 and this comeing season.

ND plays SIX home games in ’08. How many do the “name” football programs usually play. I believe you will discover that answer to be 7 or 8. Again, you are wrong.

Another losing season? Check back in late November. Only a nutcase like you would suggest ND may have another losing season. However, with the word “may” I guess you left yourself and escape hatch.

To the Rock, This is the kind of “ROCK” NOTRE DAME HAS BEEN NEEDING TO BUILD NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS WITH. THE TALENT IS COMING THE COACHES ARE HERE THE STUDENT BODY AND THE BEST FAN BASE IN THE COUNTRY IS THERE NOW IT IS TIME TO PUT IT ALL TOGETHER.

Chris Watt and Alex Bullard,Talk about two solid “ROCKS”They will be blocking for Cierre Wood and fellow Fighting Irish Classmates in the near future. Along with the rest of the Class and the previous ones coming in it looks to be a wonderful group of hitter’s ,playmakers, speedsters and kids with heart and big time student athletes. Keep it up Coach Weis,Coach Tenuta,Coach Brown,Coach I and the rest of the staff. What a summer 2008 is becoming. This is how you reload instead of rebuild for runs and winning seasons, winning Bolw Games and most important at Notre Dame winning National Championships. Great things are going to happen at Cartier Field during practice which will mean great success at Notre Dame Stadium and all over the country in years to come.

To the kids and their familys. You have nothing but bit ,blood, swaet, toli and tears ahead of you to help make Notre Dame great again. Thanks for becoming Fighting Irishman!
    Can you believe it!
    GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO IRISH!

I lol when I read that we should wait to see if we have another losing or keep weakening our schedule.
Last year ND had the 5th most difficult schedule compared to the two biggies in the b11 at around 50th to 55th.
Now when ND has a comparable schedule it is considered weak.
I would like to see tougher competition but I would rather see the caliber players that deand a tougher schedule.
Being humbled in ’07 as we were could be the best thing to happen to ND in 15 years.
    GO Irish!!

I LOVE THE HATERS who talk trash about how Notre Dame sucks , these guys always get their stats and facts wrong and then they deny telling us who there team is because they know that they dont have 11 National Championships 7 heismans and an absurd graduation rate.

Watt will be a great interior lineman. However we need a conerstone offensive tackle like Jake Long. If we don’t get Nixon or Lalota (I think we’ll get at least one)we will be in serious trouble on the outside. I really think we’ll be fine though. Get one and GO IRISH
