Irish Swing CB Marlon Pollard

The 4-Star UCLA commitment switched his allegiance to Notre Dame on Monday. Here’s what Pollard said about his trip to South Bend: “I was amazed… I expected it to be a great campus and everything. When you get there it’s a completely different feeling. The people, not just the students but the administrators too, everyone is just real down to earth. It’s all people like me, very focused people.” Pollard was named an O-D All-American and will play in the 2009 O-D All-American Bowl. He’s the tenth Irish Commitment so far.

Vitals:

Cornerback
Cajon (CA) San Bernardino

Ht: 6-foot-1
Wt: 160 lbs
Forty: 4.6 secs
Bench max: 205 pounds
Vertical: 38 inches
GPA: 3.5

ESPN Review of Pollard:

“He is tall, very lean but pound-for-pound a strong, explosive kid. Quick-twitched athlete who excels at breaking on underneath balls with good initial speed and force. Reaches top speed quickly when closing vertically and is a strong yet sound open field tackler. Bottom line, Pollard’s great initial burst and nose for the football as cornerback can’t be coached; the bulk will come when he attacks a college weight training program.”

    …that’s UCLA’s/Rick’s second defection in the 2009 recruiting class…I wonder why?…

Good pick up at cornerback. He is a better prospect than what we had before Weis got here. For one thing he actually plays the cornerback position in high school, something we did not have from prospects playing before Weis got here.

His strength is run support. Seems to have a knack for closing the gap running downhill. I am not too sure about his coverage skills. He might be susceptible to double moves.

Overall, a good pick up. I think he will be great under Coach Brown’s tutelage.

Everyone talks like this guy has signed. Do you forget last year or the year before? This guy will probably change his mind again. MAybe he’ll pick Hawaii?

Do you have anybody in mind? The only triple committer to burn ND that I can recall is Chris Little. Last year Kapron Lewis-Moore and Trevor Robinson switched for the Irish and stuck. The year before that, Gary Gray and Brian Smith did the same. I don’t really expect an answer to my question now do I?

Maybe he will ultimately decide that the Gators are a better fit, and become (a) “Florida Marlon.”
